I. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Buenavista village is a “barangay” (small town) located in the island of Palawan, a province of the Philippines, and is part of the Palawan Adventist Mission. The SDA church is growing in Palawan and the need for accommodating new members calls for developing the existing infrastructure. Most of the village churches in Palawan are constructed using local materials. These type of churches are easily destroyed by frequent tropical storms.
Local church leaders, with the support of the Palawan Mission, contacted AIIAS Business Club (ABC) seeking for help to replace the actual “nipa” (local material) structure for a solid, durable, and more representative church building. II. Background Information
Palawan: The first church in Palawan was established in 1947. After many years of evangelism and hard work, the Palawan Mission was created in 2010 as part of the North Philippine Union Conference (NPUC). Today, the SDA presence in the island is summarized as follows:

Buenavista: Buenavista village is located 50 km. north from Puerto Princesa, the capital of the province of Palawan. The village has around 200 households. The main livelihood activities are fishing and farming.
Around 20 members (7 families) attend the church in Buenavista regularly. Other members and visitors attend the Sabbath School program. This church was established 5 years ago and was constructed out of local materials (bamboo, wood, and straw) by its members.
AIIAS Business Club (ABC) Mission Trips: The ABC is the Club that gathers students and faculty of the Business Department at the Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies (AIIAS). It has been organizing mission trips since 2010. In 2010 they improved a Church in Indonesia, building the missing walls, windows, and doors, painting, and placing a tile floor. In 2011 the ABC remodeled the computer lab of Sabah Adventist School in Malaysia. ABC Mission Trips are organized to support church projects in the region. The previous experiences were so rich that this year the ABC officers decided to support one project in the Philippines: to help another Church to fulfill their dream of having a better place to worship the Lord and witness to the community.
III. Project Goal and Objectives
Goal:
- Construction of a basic church structure in Buenavista village.
Objectives:
- Support the evangelism effort of the local Mission (Palawan Adventist Mission).
- Provide an opportunity to the Business students and AIIAS community, to engage in an outreach program.
- Support AIIAS to fulfill its mission of “developing leaders excelling in service to the church and society”.
IV. Project Implementation
The project implementation has been divided in 3 phases, according to the following activities:
- Phase 1
- Earth works: remove all structure, clean the construction area, level the ground
- Lay foundations
- Set the structure and roofing
- Set the floor
- Phase 2
- Set the walls
- Phase 3
- Doors and windows
- Facade
- Painting
The project LOA (Life of Activity) is intended for 4 months, if the funds were available[1]:
Materials will be purchased in advance and made available at the construction site. Valuable materials will be guarded in the warehouse of the Mission.
Local Church members, ABC members, and AIIAS Church members will constitute the work force. In addition, the church elder is a construction specialist and he will lead the team.
The building plan has been design by an engineer according to the recommendations of North Philippine Union for barangay churches. The front elevation, typical side elevation, and floor plan are as follows:

The ABC will make a Mission Trip from October 10 to 19 to start phase 1 of the construction, and give Bible studies at home of interested families. VI. Budget
The implementation of the project is a joint effort of the local church (Buenavista), the local Mission (Palawan), AIIAS Business Club, AIIAS Church, and donors. Local members will contribute with labor, and the local Mission will contribute with the engineering and architectural plan, obtaining the building permit, transportation, purchasing and transporting the materials for the construction, and providing construction tools.
The budget was developed to meet the needs of our brethren in Buenavista, Palawan. The budget is divided in three phases as described in “Project Implementation”, and the detailed budget is as follows:
